Oakley Coffee Stand Seongsu || South Korea Specialty Coffee Guide
I came across Oakley coffee stand in the back streets of Seongsu by happenstance. I’d set off in search of a healthy vegetarian lunch at a cafe that I now know, no longer exists. I stood on the street looking down at my phone map and back up again, trying to read the Hangul on the signs. After a few moments a girl came out to help me.
I was starving and the girl lamented the the cafe she was working at didn’t have much in the way of lunch food. I didn’t care, as I looked past her into Oakley.
“Not to worry a good cup of coffee till tide me over.”
I sat at the small bar and ordered. I only spoke a few words to the owner but he was a really friendly man. We copied our favourite coffee stores into each other’s Kakao maps for future coffee adventures.
By this point of my trip I was really impressed with the quality off the coffee South Korea had to offer. Dare I also mention my addiction to egg fluff instead of milk foam?
Oakley had only been open a few months at this point but they had a real presence on the block. I was made a high quality aeropress, iced — to make the hot Seoul day more bearable.
Although it was not the lunch I was expecting their pound cake with vanilla cream was exactly what I needed.
WHERE IS OAKLEY COFFEE STAND?
Oakley coffee stand is situated in the neighbourhood of Seongsu. I would highly recommend walking through these streets on your way to Seoul Forest.
Address: 225-2 Seongsu-dong 1(il)-ga, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea ( remember to use Kakao maps in South Korea )
SEONGSU AS A NEIGHBOURHOOD
Seongsu is what you would call a “trendy” area. Old factories and stone buildings play host to many vintage stores, textile warehouses, boutiques, cafe’s and art spaces. If shopping is not for you there are lots of murals to find. Keep a keen eye on alleyways and peaking from the side of buildings.
Here you will find a collective of eclectic storefronts that boast “hand made shoes”. Since the 1990’s craftsmen have flocked to Seongsu for its cheap rent and thus the abundance of shoe choices! Have your own made couture style or pick from the many unique designs at each store.
Make your way down the many streets, stopping in at boutiques and cafes for lunch. After retail therapy you can take a stroll in Seoul Forrest.
