The Cupping Room || Hong Kong Specialty Coffee Guide

Central Hong Kong Architecture

The Cupping Room is a specialty coffee store situated on a sloping road; underneath the Mid-Levels escalators in Central Hong Kong.

If you’ve not familiar with the Mid-Level escalator then let me introduce you to the world’s longest escalator!

This escalator stretches a whopping 800m and ascends between skyscrapers at a total elevation of 135m. I highly recommend taking the full tour — but remember, what goes up must come down!

Near the start of the Mid-level escalator on the corner of Cochrane and Wellington is The Cupping Room. This popular coffee nook is home to the 5 time Hong Kong Barista champion; Kapo Chiu.

Step over the threshold and have a quick coffee in the cozy shop front or take your meeting upstairs to the intimate dining area. This upper space also moonlights as their “Cupping Room”…quite literally; with frequent coffee events open to the public.

They use their own beans which are roasted at their official roastery store in Sheung Wan. With four locations across Hong Kong Island you’ll never be far from good coffee!

Their v60 filter was smooth & latte’s creamy. Pair some their beverages with one of their delicious pastries and you’ve got yourself a scrumptious coffee break.

Hot tip: Plan your visit here before or after the Hong Kong CBD lunch rush — The Cupping Room is VERY popular amongst the local professionals!
